WRITERS' VILLAGE - TODAY
Writers' Village University is run by Bob Hembree (site owner and founder) with a team of dedicated volunteers and has been operating as a paid membership site since January 1998. We currently offer a wide variety of courses to approximately 2,000 members. At the writopia.org campus, members find over 200 courses in the craft of writing. In 1999, members joined Bob in the development and running of additional courses. The existing Fiction and Literature courses have been joined by five new divisions: General Business of Writing, Comedy Writing, Non-Fiction, Journalism and Business Writing, and Poetry. Bob has been joined by more than a dozen new instructors and this number continues to grow. In addition to the members area, the course F2K: Fiction Writing for the New Millennium is offered free to anyone with internet access at writopia.com. This course offers an introduction to the craft of writing fiction and provides a sample of how courses at the Village are run. A dedicated team of mentors assists students new to the course, and possibly new to the online learning experience, as they go through this six-week course. We also publish the online T-Zero Xpandizine monthly. Featuring regular columns, contests and showcasing short pieces from talented writers, over 23,000 subscribers receive email notices of the new issue each month. Our staff team, a group of dedicated volunteers, has grown to meet the ever-increasing demands as the site has grown and changed.
