Lesson 4: Adding What’s Essential, and Rearranging the Plot

Read chapters six and seven. Pick three or four chapters from your novel, or if a short story, use the whole story, and check for:

1. Scenes in which your characters don’t talk, think, or do anything,
2. Undescribed characters
3. Undescribed surroundings
4. Scenes that tell, instead of show
5. The order of what’s happening

Post about 1500 to 2000 words, with and without the revisions, for others to see the improvement.

Give feedback on what your co-students post.
