BUSINESS 151 [M] [1] [2] [3] [4]- Classroom A - Classroom B

Week 1: Taking Responsibility

As we begin this journey and begin to accept responsibility for everything we do in life, we start to learn that choice is much more than what we will have for dinner or what clothes we wear. As we follow David Ponder on his eye-opening journey, we see him choosing to be a failure. The lessons and secrets learned from historical figures will slowly help him and us to see how the choices we make can lead to failure and unhappiness or success. Harry Truman is David's first encounter; he will tell us, instead of asking "Why me?" counter with "Why not me?" He will teach us to make decisions and stand behind them, and not waste energy on second thoughts.

Reading Assignment: Read Chapters 1 - 3

Lesson 1 Discussion: The First Decision: The Buck Stops Here

Choose one or both of the following topics and post your response to the board.

1. President Harry Truman tells David, "You have chosen the pathway to your present destination. The responsibility for your situation is yours." Do you believe that an individual's present state is solely determined by personal choice and responsibility? Why or why not?

2. Truman says, "Our thinking creates a pathway to success or failure." Can you remember a particular instance when your thinking created success? When your thinking led to failure? Have you seen evidence of this truism in the lives of others?
