BUSINESS 148 [M] [1] [2] [3] [4]- Classroom A - Classroom B

Week 1: The Energy of First Thoughts

If you've taken other courses focusing on our inner critic, you know that writing your first thoughts in a journal first thing in the morning tends to send our critic into seclusion or at least takes the wind out of his or her sails. Whether it's done by free writing, timed writing, or journal writing, those first thoughts have energy 'unencumbered by ego'. First thoughts have truth and emotion. Don't stop, keep writing. Write through the tears, don't think, don't cross out, don't edit punctuation, spelling or grammar. Just keep writing and let it all hang out.

Reading Assignment: Creativity and Its Inhibition

Writing Assignment: Make a List of Topics to get you jump-started. Choose one or two topics from your list and write a paragraph or two and post to the board. If you have Writing Down the Bones, you might use suggestions on pages 20 -22. Remember to write your first thoughts; don't edit, don't think…hit submit.
