BUSINESS 142 [M] [1] [2] [3] - Classroom A - Classroom B

Week 1: Finding a Natural Voice

When we sit down to write, we are frequently plagued with an assortment of voices. The object here is to concentrate on your most natural voice, which will encourage you to write in your most conversational tone. Quite often, talking aloud as you write is helpful –– and in this assignment, is also actively encouraged.

Assignment

Write about a rubber band. With no guidance other than to study this item for a moment, write (as you talk aloud), putting down whatever thoughts come into your head. Perhaps these thoughts will actually be questions: "What nonsense is this?" "What can this possibly accomplish?" Why am I doing this?" Write whatever comes to mind. Just let it happen. Expanding this object into something comprehensible is pure creativity.
